Heels in the League (NBA) 01/10/10

(NBA) 01/10/10A day late (sorry real life stepped in) here is my recap from the games of Sunday, January 10, 2009. In all there were six games on the slate, three of them have a hint of carolina blue. (The recap for 01/11/10 will be up in the early afternoon). None of the three games on Sunday were head to head ones, meaning there were only three teams in action. So, sit back and relax as we go through this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA) for 01/10/10…

The first game of the night is the Washington Wizards playing host to the New Orleans Hornets at the Verizon Center, with a crowd that numbered 14,753 (max capacity: 20,173). For the home squad it’s the combo of Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood. The forward, who a lot of people think might be traded, played 44 minutes in this one. Jamison had a game high 32 points (13 for 21 ~ 2 for 7 ~ 4 for 6), to go with eight rebounds, two assists and a pair of TOs. For the ex NPOY under Dean Smith it was a +5 as far as pts differential. The big man in the middle, who played for 34 minutes, had a double double in this one. Haywood scored 14 points going a perfect 7 for 7 from the field, adding 14 rebounds, four blocks, a steal and turned the ball over once and had a +9 pts differential. In the end it was New Orleans taking down Washington by five, with the final score being 115 to 110. With the loss the Wizards are now 12 and 23 (.342 winning percentage).

And finally, in the last game of this recap, it’s the Cleveland Cavaliers going to the Rose Garden to take on the Portland Trail Blazers. A game that is viewed by an almost sell out crowd of 20,614 (max capacity: 20,630). For the visiting team we have the tandem of Jawad Williams and Danny Green. While the rookie guard dresses but does not see any action, the forward does. Williams plays 17 minutes off the bench in this game, scoring 10 points (3 for 7 ~ 2 for 5 ~ 2 for 2) to go with two rebounds, a steal and a turnover. For the night the forward had a +17 pts differential. As far as the game is concerned it was Cleveland winning the game, beating Portland by a dozen, the final score being 106 to 94.
