Once again it’s time to talk about the ex players from Chapel Hill in the Pro’s. So let’s look how the ex Diamond Heels did yesterday, Friday, April 16, 2010. While all three teams with a touch of Carolina Blue were in action, only two will have a recap as the Boston Red Sox’ game was suspended due to rain. For the complete rundown of the games from 04/16/10 you can check out ESPN’s Scoreboard Page. A reminder, starting this Monday I will be adding the Minor Leaguers (have not been able to do so because RL things that have limited my time). But for now let’s get going with this edition of “Heels in the League” (MLB) for the games from 04/16/10…

The first game recap is the one between the Baltimore Orioles (5th AL East) and the Oakland A’s (1s AL West) played at the Oakland Coliseum in front of a crowd that numbered 12,225 (34.9% capacity). This is the second game of a four game series between the two teams. For the team from Charm City it should be Brian Roberts playing second base for the Orioles, but as I reported yesterday the ex Tar Heel is on the 15 day DL. As far as the game was concerned it was a low scoring affair that went to Oakland, defeating Baltimore by the final tally of 4 to 2. With the loss the Orioles are 1-10 on the year (.091 winning percentage), 1-4 on the road (.200 winning percentage) while being 6.5 games behind the division leader.

The other game on tap for yesterday was the one between the Colorado Rockies (3rd NL West) and the Atlanta Braves (2nd NL East). The game, the first of three, was played at Turner Field in front of a crowd of 27,692 (55.7% capacity). For the visiting team from the Mile High City it is catcher Chris Iannetta (5 Games: .190 BA (4 for 21) ~ 2 HRs ~ 2 RBIs ~ 2 BBs ~ 6 Ks ~ 476 SLG) starting for the Rockies and going 0 for 4 with two strike outs. As far as the game went it was Atlanta taking this one from Colorado by the final of 9 to 5. With the loss the Rockies drop to 5-5 on the year (.500 winning percentage), 1-3 on the road (.250 winning percentage) and are 2.0 games back of the division leader.
