As we continue the catching up here on The Fifth Corner it is time to get back to the ex Lady Heels now in professional basketball with my next edition of “Heels in the League” (WNBA). In this installment we have the games from 06/07/09, where all of the five ex players from Chapel Hill are in action, one for the first time this season, while the others got their feet wet already in 2009.  It is nice to see that most of the five ex Heels started, the others came off the bench, but I can say that everyone (in their own way) contributed. So, without any more interruptions, here is the this edition of “Heels in the League” (WNBA)…

In the first game of the night it’s the battle of I-95 as the Connecticut Sun comes down to Madison Square Garden to play against the New York Liberty in front of almost 13,500 fans. For the home squad it’s second year forward Cathrine Kraayeveld, who gets the nod and plays for over 33 minutes in the game, scoring 8 points (4 for 13 ~ 0 for 8 from 3 pt). And while the shooting was not great, the ex Heel does get 7 boards, two assists, two steals and a block. Kraayeveld does also commit four turnovers in the game. In the end it’s Connecticut winning the game, defeating New York by the final of 66 to 57.

In the next game we have a pair of ex Lady Heels playing, as the Minnesota Lynx travel to play the Indiana Fever at Conseco Fieldhouse in front of 9,234 fans. For the guests it’s Rashanda McCants and LaToya Pringle, both coming off the bench in this game. McCants, who gets about 10:30 minutes, scores 6 points, going 2 for 3 from beyond the arc. The ex Heel also gets a rebound, a steal and a block, while turning the ball over once and committing four fouls. For Pringle, who got less than seven minutes of playing time, it’s just two points (1 for 1 from the field), to go along with three boards and an assist, while having three TO’s. In this game it’s all the Lynx as Minnesota wins big, beating Indiana by the final tally of 96 to 74.

Going to the third game of the night and the third game with a touch of carolina blue it’s the Atlanta Dream going to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Mystics at the Verizon Center (11,759 in attendance). For the Dream it’s ex Lady Heel, Nikki Teasley (who is the veteran amongst the ex Heels, having played six years in the pro’s). Teasley, starting for her squad, gets just under eight minutes of playing time, scoring no points and grabbing a rebound, and getting five personal fouls. As far as the game was concerned it was Washington taking this one, as they beat Atlanta 77 to 71.

The last game of the night that has an ex Lady Heel on it is the one played Key Arena between the Sacramento Monarchs and the Seattle Storm. For the home team it’s Camille Little, who starts and gets almost 26 minutes at one of the forward slots. The ex Heel scores 11 points (5 for 10 from the floor ~ 1 for 1 from the charity stripe) and adds five rebounds, four steals and a block shot, while committing no TO’s. Thanks to that effort, as well as her team mates’, Seattle won the game by 10 points, taking down Sacramento 80 to 70.
