A bit, well actually, very late here is the post about the ex Carolina players in the National Basketball Association. And as we all know that means that it’s a game with the Cleveland Cavaliers, since there is only one ex UNC player, and that is Jawad Williams. I have to say that I would be pleased if the Cavs won it all because of Williams being on the team. The ex Heel forward was part of the team that under Matt Doherty went 8-20 (he was a freshman then). He was also part of the magical run that the team made under second year head coach Roy Williams (Jawad was a senior that season). Now, he could grab an NBA title. So, let’s see how his team did in this edition of “Heels in the League” (NBA Playoffs)…
It’s game four of the series, held in the sunshine state, more precisely Amway Arena. It’s the guest team, Cleveland Cavaliers, against the home squad, Orlando Magic. The winner going onto the NBA Final, all of this in front of 17,461 fans (most rooting for the Magic). For the Cavs, who could be done 3-0 if not for the heroics of LeBron James in game two, this is pretty much a must need game. For the Magic, a win here could give them the advantage needed to win this series. As usual, for Cleveland Jawad Williams would not see a second of action, as a matter of fact he is not even dressed for action. What he would watch would be a game that went back and forth, that would end tied up 100 a piece at the end of regulation, and would keep to the norm of who was ahead in the first quarter would lose the game. Unfortunately for the Cavs they were up 25 to 21 after 12 minutes, and in the end Orlando would win the game, defeating Cleveland 116 to 114. Imagine this, a week ago the LBJ & Company were undefeated, seemed to be steamrolling into the NBA Finals. Now they are on the brink of elimination and not looking like a team that has an answer to its opponent. Jeff Sack, owner of the Slam Dunk Central web site, asks a question most people in Cleveland are probably asking themselves as well: “Does The “Cleveland Curse” Actually Exist?“. After having watched the last week of basketball I am not sure if I can say there is a curse, but I have to say, I am not sure that there isn’t. At the SB Nation blog, Fear The Sword, their title for this game is: “The Morning After: Broken, Beat & Scarred “. That basically says it all, doesn’t it? But maybe I have found out why the Cavs are down 3 to 1 in this series, seems that the Queen of the Q turned her back! Didn’t she read the blogger’s manual that you can’t go on long weekend during the playoffs? Of course, as we have become accustomed to, over at Talk Hoops Net there is their solid recap of game four of the Cavs/Magic series. At AOL FanHouse there are several pieces about this game, starting with the one by Tim Povtak, who says: “Magic Closing Book on Cavs“. But a collegue of his, Tom Ziller, warns us not to “Don’t Bury the Cavs Yet“. Which I can agree, up to a point, because I am not burying them, they are burying themselves from what I have seen. And the last piece from this community is one about LBJ, where David Whitley writes that: “Losing Won’t Tarnish LeBron’s Legacy“. I agree with the piece for the most part, but if he is going to be the hero, he has to take on the hero’s role when it counts.
