As the weekend is right around the corner it’s time to yet again check out how the ex Diamond Heels are doing at the next level (Major and minor leagues). That means it’s time for another edition of “Heels in the League” (MLB) on The Fifth Corner. All four of the Major League teams with a touch of carolina blue were in action yesterday, while a couple of the teams fromt he minors are still having issues with the weather (or are on an off day). So, sit back and relax, as you read the 05/21/09 edition of “Heels in the League” (MLB)…

The first game, played at Turner Field, was the one between the Colorado Rockies and the Atlanta Braves. In this game, for the visiting squad, it’s ex Carolina Chris Iannetta going 0 for 4 with one walk and a strike out, while leaving three on the base paths. As far as the game went, even with the ex Diamond Heel not having a good game, Colorado (16-24, 9-14 away) won the game, shutting out Atlanta (20-20, 8-12 home) by the final of 9-0.

Staying in the NL it’s the Arizona Diamondback and the Florida Marlins battling it out. For the home squad from the sunshine state ex UNC hurler Andrew Miller hasn’t returned to the team yet. In the game it was Arizona (17-24, 8-9 away) winning this one by a run, beating Florida (19-23, 8-12 home) 4-3, thanks to a two run eighth inning.

Changing to the American League, the next game is the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees played in the new stadium in the old Bronx. For the visiting squad it’s ex UNC infielder Brian Roberts going 1 for 5 with a HR (6th of the season), a RBI and a run scored. The second baseman for the O’s also struck out three times and left three on the bases. In the end it was New York (24-17, 13-7 home) taking the game, beating Baltimore (16-25, 5-14 away) by the final score of 7 to 4.

The last game from the Majors it’s the match up between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. For the home team ex UNC right hander Daniel Bard didn’t play in this one, but watched as his team sweeped the series, with Boston (25-16, 16-4 home) beating Toronto (27-17, 11-11 away) by the final of 5 to 1.
