Yesterday there were two games, both with a touch of carolina blue, in all three ex UNC players are on the rosters of the four teams that were playing. The fourth one didn’t have a player from Chapel Hill, but has their head coach from UNC, so basically we can call it an all Carolina affair. For the players, one made it on to Eastern Finals, for another it was a close call, but is still in the playoffs, while the third is headed for the time off period before getting back to work for next season. And it is all right here for you, in the post I call “Heels in the League” (NBA Playoffs). And before I start, as I did in my “Good Morning Tar Heels” post, a happy birthday to the coach from UNC, George Karl, who turns 58 today, now on to the recaps…

First game of the night was the one between the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers and the Atlanta Hawks, played at Philips Arena in front of a packed house, with the Cavs having a 3-0 lead over the Hawks. For the visiting team it’s ex UNC forward Jawad Williams, who did not get to see any action (as has been the case for most of the year). For the home team it’s the second Williams, Marvin Williams that is, from the 2005 national championship team (the third Williams was head coach Roy Williams). The Hawks’ forward got 30 minutes as a starter, scoring just four points (1 for 7 from the floor), while getting four boards, two assists, one steal and a block. In the end it was Cleveland winning this one by ten, defeating Atlanta by the final of 84 to 74. Checking in with the Queen of the Q, aka Carolyn from And One, her take on the game is simple: “Round Two – Won and Done”, at that is about it, ain’t it? Over at Slam Dunk Matt Loede says “to infinity and beyond“, well not sure about infinity, maybe until next year when LBJ’s contract is over, but we get the picture, no? Fear the Sword is more direct with the title, just saying “Cavs sweep Hawks”, and it was not even close for the most part I say! At Talk Hoops Net you know they have their usual well done recap of the game. Then we go to the losing side of this game, checking out the Peachtree Hoops, and what they are saying of the game. At NovaSports the title of their post is very straight forward, LeBron leads Cavs to another sweep. And I finish with this, can Kateasa Blair (from A Stern Warning) be telling us the future with her newest blog entitled ““Curse of an MVP“.

In the night cap game it’s the Denver Nuggets and the Dallas Mavericks playing game four with the Nuggets being up 3-0. The good thing for the Mavs is that the game was being played in the friendly confine of American Airlines Center. As we all well know there was no sign of Jerry Stackhouse, and we also know that we will never see the ex Heel in a Mavs uniform ever again. But, if he was watching the game he saw a very good one, as Dallas pulled off the win by a duece, outlasting Denver 119 to 117. From Talk Hoops Net here is the recap between the Nuggets and the Mavs. And of course, always great writing at Slam Dunk Central, it Stephen Rhodes saying “Nowitzki’s 44 Help Mavericks Stay Alive“, and I have to admit, they needed all of them in order to do so.
