As the weekend begins it is time to start it off right, and the way we do that here on The Fifth Corner is by giving you yesterday’s recap for the ex Diamond Heels now playing at the next level. As you should know, if you follow this daily post at all, that means giving you the recap to over twenty ex players that once used to play at Chapel Hill. And as you should know as well, that means this is the next edition of “Heels in the League” (MLB). Well, let’s get this one going, so sit back and relax as we visit the Majors, where just one team with a touch of carolina blue is in action, and Minors, where most of the teams with ex Diamond Heels played, for 05/08/09…
The first game besides having a touch of carolina blue also has the return of Alex Rodriguez. It’s the match up at Oriole Park in Camden Yards between the New York Yankees (3rd in the AL East – 4.5 games back of 1st) and the Baltimoe Orioles (5th in the AL East – 7.0 games back of 1st). For the home squad it’s ex Heel Brian Roberts having a good night, going 2 for 3 and also drawing a walk in the game. Unfortunately the second baseman got two of the four hits that the O’s were able to muster in this one and that hurt them as New York (14-15, 8-8 away) won this one in a shut out, defeating Baltimore (12-18, 9-9 home) 4 to 0.
