Once again trying to getting back on track with this post about the Major Leagues, it’s time for the May 4th edition of “Heels in the League” (MLB). All three of the teams in the MLB with a touch of carolina blue were in action yesterday, while in the minor a couple wren’t able to take to the field due to bad weather. Starting with tomorrow’s post I will be putting the Single A in it, but for now it’s still going to be Triple and Double A. But now, without any more interruptions, let’s get ready to see what happened in the games from 05/04/09…

The first one that has an ex Carolina player in it is a battle of teams way below .500. With the Baltimore Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays. The game was played in the sunshine state at Tropicana Field in front of 12,658 fans (just over 35% capacity). For the visiting team from Maryland it’s ex Diamond Heel Brian Roberts who has a very good performance, going 2 for 4 with a homer. The second baseman also had two RBIs along with 3 runs scored and one walk. Roberts’ only blemish on the night was leaving a man on the base paths. Unfortunately that great job by the ex Carolina player was not enough as Tampa Bay (11-16, 5-7 home) defeated Baltimore (10-16, 3-8 away) by the final of 8 to 4.

The next game on tap for the day is the one between Cincinnati Reds and the Florida Marlins, played at Dolphin Stadium in front of 10,825 (just over 28% capacity). The ex UNC pitcher Andrew Miller is not on the field for the Marlins as he is still recovering, while Florida (15-11, 6-4 home) won a close one that went into extra innings, defeating Cincinnati (13-12, 9-5 away) by the final of 3 to 2 in fourteen frames. The sad part is that a tight game like this, that went so long (over 4:30 hours) had to end on a bad throw.

The last game is once again one that pits two teams that are both under .500. It’s the Colorado Rockies taking on the San Diego Padres at Petco Park, in front of 14,717 fans (34.5% full). For the visiting Rockies it’s ex Heel Chris Iannetta starting behind the plate and going 2 for 4 with a grand slam home run, with 4 RBIs and scoring a run. The only blemishes were 2 K’s he had and leaving three on the base paths. In the end it was Colorado (10-14, 6-9 away) winning this one, defeating San Diego (11-15, 6-5 home) 9 to 6.
