Almost caught up (and will be by tonight) here is the April 28th’s games recaps on The Fifth Corner in the (almost) daily post called “Heels in the League” (MLB). All three teams with a touch of carolina blue were in action on this date, as well as most of the games from both the Triple and Double A. Starting tomorrow (or as soon as I am caught up) I will be adding all the ex Diamond Heels who are playing in Single A. Also, as anyone who has been following this post, Jimmy the Net Sports Geek is picking games as of yesterday, and while he did go 0 for 1 yesterday in baseball, today he has picks from the MLB. You can check them out here.

In the first game of the day with a touch of carolina blue it’s the Florida Marlins going against the New York Mets. For the team from the south ex UNC pitcher Andrew Miller is on the fifteen day disabled list (has been since a week ago) and the team brought up a replacement from Triple A. In the game for today, played at the brand new City Field, Florida (12-8, 7-4 away) defeated New York (9-11, 6-5 home) by the final of 7 to 4. This game stops a seven game slide by the Marlins and send the Mets two games below .500.

The next game in the Majors with an ex Diamond Heel on the roster is the game between two squads that are below .500 on the season. The Los Angeles Angels and the Baltimore Orioles. In the game played at Oriole Park in Camden Yards, it ex UNC second baseman Brian Roberts batting lead off for the home squad. Roberts went 1 for 5, striking out once and leaving two on the bases. As far as the game went Los Angeles (8-11, 2-5 away) took this one, beating Baltimore (9-12, 7-7 home) by the final tally of 7 to 5, even though the O’s outslugged the Angels 12 to 11 in the game.

The last game with an ex Heel playing in the Majors from Chapel Hill is the one between the San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies, where ex UNC catcher Chris Iannetta sits this one out. He watched the game from the dug out and probably wished he was playing as San Diego (11-9, 5-5 away) took this one by a run, defeating Colorado (7-12, 3-5 home) 4 to 3.
