In the great run to almost being caught up with this daily post (one day behind once this one is posted), here is the April 27th edition of the “Heels in the League” (MLB). On this day all three of the Major League teams with a touch of carolina blue were in action. Almost all the teams in the minors were in action as well. Also, from now on, check out what The Fifth Corner’s Pick’Em Expert Jimmy “the Net Sports Geek” said about the games from today by clicking here. Of course, if he picks badly (as mostly likely will be the case) you can leave him messages in the comment box.

For the first game of the day it’s the San Diego Padres going to Coors Field to take on the Colorado Rockies. For the home team ex North Carolina catcher Chris Iannetta (.174 BA ~ 3 HRs ~ 5 RBIs ~ .391 SLG) went 1 for 3 with two walks and two left on bases. Colorado (7-11, 3-4 home) won the game, defeating San Diego (10-9, 4-5 away) by the final of 12 to 7, but I have to mention that the Rockies’ Dexter Fowler stole five bases, a modern day record.

In the second game of the day we have the Florida Marlins going to the Big Apple and taking on the New York Mets at the new Citi Field. In the game for the visiting team it’s ex UNC pitcher Andrew Miller, who didn’t get any action, but had to watch as his team once again fell. New York (9-10, 6-4 home) won this game easily, defeating Florida (11-8, 6-4 away) by the final tally of 7 to 1.

The last game in MLB with a touch of carolina blue is the one played at Oriole Park in Camden Yards between the Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles. For the home squad Brian Roberts (.356 BA ~ 2 HRs ~ 5 RBIs ~ .511 SLG) had a good night, going 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs, while leaving one man on the bases. In the end that wasn’t enough as Texas (9-10, 4-6 away) took this one, beating Baltimore (9-11, 7-6 home) 6 to 4.
