As we catch up, which seems to be working finally, on the daily post called “Heels in the League” (MLB) here is the next edition of the post where we recap the ex Diamond Heels’ performance. In this post we are looking at the games from April 26th, where it seems all the teams, from both the MLB as well as Triple and Double A, were in action. If all goes well, and there is no unforeseen problems I should be catching up with this (not so) daily post by tonight and from tomorrow on I will be on a daily status. But for now let’s concentrate on the games of the day, which are the ones from 04/26/09…
In the first one with a touch of carolina blue it’s the Philadelphia Phillies going down to the sunshine state to play against the Florida Marlins. In this game, ex UNC pitcher Andrew Miller does not see action and watches his team slide once again in front of 17,177 fans at Dolphin Stadium. Philadelphia (9-8, 6-2 away) takes this game by double digits, destroying Florida (11-7, 5-4 home) 13 to 2.
The next game with an ex Diamond Heel in it is the one between the Texas Rangers and the Baltimore Orioles. Ex UNC second baseman Brian Roberts has one great performance in this one, going 4 for 5 (including his 2nd HR of the season), as well as scoring 3 runs, and leaving no men on bases. Thanks in part to his hitting, Baltimore (9-10, 7-5 home) beat Texas (8-10, 3-6 away) by the final score of 8 to 5.
Last game in the Majors that has a player from Chapel Hill it’s the match up between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Colorado Marlins at Coors Field. For the home squad it’s ex UNC catcher Chris Iannetta, who went 0 for 3, with a run scored and a walk, along with one man left of the base paths. In the end it’s Colorado (6-11, 2-4 home) winning the game, defeating Los Angeles (13-6, 7-6 away) by the final tally of 10 to 4.
