As promised this morning, today is one of those catch up days for the (not so) daily post about the ex Diamond Heels in both the Majors and minors, called “Heels in the League” (MLB). Once again most of the ex Heels are in action in this edition (which covers the games from April 25th). Hopefully, either in the Majors or the minors we will see some of the ex UNC pitchers see some action on the mound for their teams, but if we don’t I am sure that the role players will be in action. So, withone any more interruptions, let’s get going with the games from 04/25/09…

First game of the day is the one between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies. In a game that was played in front of 31,476 at Coors Field, ex UNC catcher Chris Iannetta sat this one out. He watched his team from the bullpen slide further down as Los Angeles (13-5, 7-5 away) took the game by a run, defeating Colorado (5-11, 1-4 home) 6 to 5.

In the next game it’s the Philadelphia Phillies going south to take on the Florida Marlins. In a game that went into extra innings ex UNC hurler Andrew Miller doesn’t see any action and watches as his team uses six pitchers in this one. In the end it was Philadelphia (8-8, 5-2 away) getting back to .500 on the season, beating Florida (11-6, 5-3 home) 6 to 4 in 10 innings. The Marlins haven’t moved past 11 wins, losing the last 5 in a row.

In the last game of the day for any ex Heel in the Majors it’s the Texas Rangers and the Baltimore Orioles. For the home squad it’s ex UNC infielder Brian Roberts, getting the nod at second base and leading off for the O’s. In this game the ex Diamond Heel goes 1 for 5 but leaves five on base, and again this is something that the Roberts might regret in the end. Texas (8-9, 3-5 away) won the game by 1, beating Baltimore (8-10, 6-5 home) by the final of 6 to 5.
