In an attempt to get this post into a daily one, and not always being in catch up mode, I am working hard today (since my slate is pretty much open) to get this “Heels in the League” (MLB) close to being a daily post (so stay tuned for 2-3 editions of this post today). April 23rd’s edition, as you saw, was a light day for the ex Diamond Heels playing either in the Majors or minors, this edition should have a lot more of them in action. This edition has all the Major league teams in action, as well as all the minor league teams. Having said that, time to check out the games for 04/24/09…
In the first game of the day with a touch of carolina blue it’s the Philadelphia Phillies going to the sunshine state to take on the Florida Marlins at Dolphin Stadium in front of 29,032 fans. For the home team ex UNC pitcher Andrew Miller doesn’t get to see any action in this one, instead watches Florida (11-5, 5-2 home) lose another game, losing to Philadelphia (7-8, 4-2 away) by the final of 7 to 3, in a game where the Phillies scored all their runs in the top of the ninth.
Next game with an ex Diamond Heel in action is the one featuring the Texas Rangers and the Baltimore Orioles. For the home team it’s Brian Roberts having a pretty good outing in all. The ex Diamond Heel goes 1 for 5 with a home run, which gives him also a run and an RBI on the day. Roberts did leave two on base, which does hurt somewhat as Texas (7-9, 2-5 away) defeated Baltimore (8-9, 6-4 home) by a single run, with the final being 5 to 4. With the loss the O’s are once again below .500.
Last game of the day with an ex Heel in the game is between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies played at Coors Field. In this one Chris Iannetta has a good game, going 2 for 5 (one a double), while scoring twice. The ex Heel did also strike out once and left two men on the base path. Once again, like the game before this one, those players left stranded proved costly as Los Angeles (12-5, 6-5 away) took the game by a run, beating Colorado (5-10, 1-3 home) by the final of 6 to 5.
