Still trying to catch up on the baseball side of things, here is my “Heels in the League” (MLB) for April 10th, 2009, while I hope to get another one in before the day is over. Since the minor leagues have started we are going to look at both the big leagues and then go check out the AAA affiliates that have a touch of carolina blue on them. In all there should be plenty to talk about when it comes to the ex Diamond Heels, but make sure to click on the links for the complete recaps and not just what I say about the ex North Carolina players. So, without wasting anymore time, here are the results from 04/10…

First game where there is an ex Heel on the roster is the game between the New York Mets and the Florida Marlins played at Dolphin State in the sunshine state. For the home team it’s lefty Andrew Miller, but he doesn’t see any action on the day. From the dugout the ex Heel watches as Florida (4-0, 4-0 home) scores in the bottom of the ninth to defeat New York (2-2, 2-2 away) 5 to 4.

The next game with a touch of carolina blue is the one played at Camden Yards between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Baltimore Orioles. For the visiting squad it’s Brian Roberts batting lead off and going 2 for 4, while scoring a run, as well as drawing a walk on the night. The ex Heel did leave a man on base, but fortunately it was not the one needed to win, as Baltimore (3-1, 3-1 home) beat Tampa Bay (2-2, 2-2 away) by the final of 5 to 4, while holding off the Rays, who scored 3 runs in the last two frames.

In the last game for the Majors, it’s the Philadelphia Phillies going to Coors Field to take on the Colorado Rockies. For the home squad it’s catcher Chris Iannetta going 0 for 4 on the night, with 2 strike out and leaving a pair on the bases. However, even with a sub par performance by the ex Diamond Heel, Colorado (3-1, 1-0 home) was able to manhandle Philadelphia (1-3, 0-1 away) by the final of 10 to 3.

And now that we checked out the big leagues, it’s time to head on down to Triple A:

The first game for the minor leagues is the Las Vegas 51′s (affiliate of the Blue Jays) taking on the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (affiliate of the Rockies). In this one we should have seen ex Heel second baseman Russ Adams, but he was on the bench this game. In the end he could have been useful to his team as Colorado Springs (2-0) beat Las Vegas (0-2) by the final of 5 to 4.

The next game of the day is the one between Pawtucket Red Sox (affiliate of the Red Sox) and the Buffalo Bisons (affiliate of the Mets). For the home squad ex Heel Kyle Snyder watches from the bull pen as Pawtucket (2-0) tears Buffalo (0-2) apart by the final score of 9 to nothing, with the Bisons able to only produce two hits for the game. On the other side of the ball park it’s Daniel Bard who watches his team win this one.
