Heels in the League 04/02/09 (NBA)

Very small schedule last night for the National Basketball Association, with just three games in all. In one of those there was a touch, or should I say “double touch” of carolina blue, and so as usual it’s time for the daily post called “Heels in the League”. With just one game this will be a very short post, but do not worry, tonight the league has ten games going on, meaning that tomorrow’s recap should be pretty lenghty as the NBA heads in the stretch run of the season. Some of the teams that have ex Heels on them will be going down to the wire to see if they get in the playoffs or not, unfortunately for the one in action tonight the post season isn’t in their cards. Not this season anyways.

In the only game of the night with ex North Carolina players it’s the Cleveland Cavaliers (1st in the Central Division) head to the nation’s capitol to take on the Washington Wizards (last in the Southeast Division) at the Verizon Center. For the home squad it’s the duo  of Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood. Jamison got 32 minutes and scored 19 points (9 for 19), while adding five rebounds, three assists and one steal. Haywood, who also had 32 minutes, recorded his first double double of year by scoring 12 points (5 for 9) and grabbing a game high 10 boards. Between the good player of the two ex pupils of Dean Smith and the rest of the team Washington (18-59, 13-26 home) was able to upset Cleveland (61-14, 25-13 away) by the final of 109 to 101, or as Jeff Sack of Slam Dunk Central put it, the Wizs casted a spell against the Cavs, snapping a 13 game winning stread for LBJ and Company. As we all know Washington is nowhere close to the playoff picture and this win could be almost be seen as their “NBA title”.
