Once again a bit on the late side, due to family things, here is the daily post about the ex Carolina players in the NBA that I call “Heels in the League”. Last night’s schedule had eleven games in all, with six ex players going on the court for their respective teams.
First game pins the Philadelphia 76′ers and the Washington Wizards, with Antawn Jamison heading the way for the home squad. The ex NPOY scored 16 points (second most on the team in this game) in 38 minutes. Jamison also added five rebounds, two steals and an assist, while committing four TOs on the night. At the end of it all it was the Philadelphia (28-28, 11-16 away) winning this one versus Washington (13-44, 9-21 home) by the final of 106 to 98. There isn’t much left for the Wizs to be playing for anymore, as they are 13.5 games behind the final spot of the East with 25 games left.
The second game has Chicago heading to New Jersey as the Bulls and the Nets face off at the IZOD Center. For the home team it’s ex Heel Vince Carter getting 39 minutes and scoring 11 points, but also adding nine rebounds, seven assists and making one turnover in the game. At the end of the night it was New Jersey (26-32, 13-17 home) winning this game, taking down Chicago (26-32, 10-21 away) by the final tally of 111 to 99. The Nets are just one game behind eighth seed of the East, the Milwaukee Bucks.
Third game of the night with a touch of carolina blue is the one that has the Pistons heading to the New Orleans Arena to battle the Hornets. For the visiting squad it was big man Rasheed Wallace playing just 28 minutes, but scoring 16 points alson with seven rebounds. All of that wasn’t enough as Detroit (27-29, 13-14 away) dropped another game, this time losing to New Orleans (34-22, 20-9 home) by 3, 90 to 87. With the loss the Pistons are now in seventh place in the East, one game ahead of the Bucks and 17.5 behind first place Cavaliers.
The next games is one that has the Milwaukee Bucks heading to the American Airlines Center to face the Dallas Mavericks. We should have seen ex Heel Jerry Stackhouse in this game, but he was yet again out for this one. Even without the ex Heel the team was able to win this one by a big margin, as Dallas (34-23, 20-8 home) defeated Milwaukee (28-32, 11-21 away) by 20 points, 116 to 96. With the win the Mavs are now in the eighth spot of the West, half a game behind Utah and 1.5 ahead of Phoenix.
Fifth game of the evening is the one between the Atlanta Hawks and the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center. For the Hawks it was Marvin Williams, who got 39 minutes in this one and the high altitude must have helped him as he had a season high 31 points in the game. The ex Heel and national champion also added seven rebounds and two steals, while losing the ball just once on the night. Those points were many, but not enough, as Atlanta (32-25, 13-19 away) lost the game by one point, losing to Denver (38-20, 21-7 home) 110 to 109. Even with the loss the Hawks keep the fourth spot in the East (to be noted 1-3 have all already clinched playoff spots), being 1.5 games ahead of the next team, the Miami Heat.
Last game on the schedule for last night is the one the pins east coast to west coast. The Charlotte Bobcats are on the other side of the U.S. to take on the Sacramento Kings at the ARCO Arena. For the visiting squad we see one of the two players we could have seen. Sean May is once again MIA, but Raymond Felton starts at the point and gets 33 minutes in all. In that time the ex pupil of Roy Williams got just four points, along with nine assists, five rebounds, one steal and a block. The point guard did have five turnovers on the night as well, but in the end it’s Charlotte (23-35, 7-20 away) winning the game, beating Sacramento (12-47, 8-20 home) by the final tally of 98 to 91. With the win the Bobcats move one spot up on the East ranking, going from 14th to 13th, and gaining one game on the eighth squad, the Bucks.
