I think that the Indiana Pacers fan base should have read my article welcoming Tyler Hansbrough to the NBA, since it seems that now more and more people are seeing what IĀ been saying and seeingĀ for a long, long time. I have said that it’s time to get on board with the fact that getting a proven commodity is a lot better than going for the “potential” player. And while I know well enough that Tyler Hansbrough might never become an All Star or the number one player on the team, he is going to be the type of player that is going to improve others, and will do it in a way people might not even notice. The Indy star has an article that in the first sentence says the following:
Contagious work ethic. Relentless. Tenacious.
If that does not say enough about what the rookie from Chapel Hill I am going to have a hard time to find anything more compelling. The Pacers’ head coach says this of his newest player:
“I knew what we were getting when we drafted him,” Pacers coach Jim O’Brien said. “His work ethic is contagious. He just pursues the basketball and never gives up on a play. He can just put the ball in the basket because he knows how to make stuff happen.
“He plays with a great deal of passion. That’s why he’s a four-time All-American.”
With his first game (in the NBA Summer League) played today I am hopeful that what we Tar Heels saw for four years, what his new team mates in Indianapolis are seeing now, is going to be seen by everyone else in the league. Hard work and dedication does pay off, and for once the good guy might just win this story. I will keep all of you posted as more and more news comes out from this week long “league”. Until then, as I do with all the other Heels, all the best to Hansbrough as he starts his professional career.
