Hansbrough could be ready in two weeks

A while back I wrote about the fact that Tyler Hansbrough was going to be out up to two months thanks to a shin injury (stemming back from his UNC days). While surfing the net for any news on the ex Tar Heel, who was a lottery pick for the Indiana Pacers, I found a small online piece from the Pacers’ blog of SBNation, Indy Cornrows. (So hat tip to them for this tidbit). In the three paragraphs it sounds like Hansbrough is going to be back after six weeks and not the two months as first expected. In a Sporting News article the power forward said that he would be ready in two weeks. Hansbrough said this:

“It’s tough not being able to work out; you know how I am,” Hansbrough said. His physical activity is limited mostly to upper-body weightlifting.

For those of us that followed him for four years in Chapel Hill we can all safely say: yes we know how you are. And if you do not, just think about the west coast trip from last season, where head coach Roy Williams was keeping him out and Tyler wanted to get into those games. Whoever (and there were plenty in the business) that thought he was going to lose that work ethic are being proved day in and day out! The last thing that I wanted to point out is that Hansbrough is rehabilitating his injury in Chapel Hill, and that to me means that a professional team has enough respect for the UNC program to let them be part of this. All college bound basketball players that have an interest in Carolina should think about that. Getting you to the NBA head coach Williams can do, but to have the respect from the franchises is even a bigger achievement!

As usual, as I do with all Heels, let me wish all the best to Tyler Hansbrough as he rehabs and gets ready for the team’s preseason (which begins in late September) and then the season, which starts against another team with an ex Heels and national champ, the Atlanta Hawks.
