Once again I am running late today (long weekend are great, catching up from them, not so much). Here is the next edition of “Good Morning Tar Heels”, where we give shout outs and links to either north carolina sites or friends of The Fifth Corner. But before I do the shout outs and links today we have not one, not two but three birthday wishes to give out to Tar Heels (both still in Chapel Hill or that have moved on to the next part of their life). It’s going to be a packed post, so sit back and relax, and check out all the links that I give you in this edition of “Good Morning Tar Heels” for 05/28/09…

Birthday Wishes to:

  • The first one goes out to a two sports player while in Chapel Hill. Ronald  (Antonio) Curry, who turns 30 today, played both football and basketball while at UNC. In his years in college the young man broke many records as the QB of the team and was named MVP in two bowl games. He also played on the hardwoods, alongside another ex gridiron Heel, Julius Peppers. Now he is playing with the Detroit Lions as a WR. Happy birthday Ronald!
  • The next one goes to an ex Diamond Heel, who this year is helping out head coach Mike Fox as an undergraduate assistant coach. It’s Chad Flack‘s 23rd birthday, and we wish him all the best to one of the guys behind the runs to the College World Series done by Carolina. All the best on your day Chad!
  • The last one goes to this year’s starting quarterback, T.J. Yates. The young man is 22 today and will be the man in charge of taking Carolina to back to back bowl games. But for now, all the best and happy birthday to T.J.!

The links:

  • One site if you are a Tar Heel fan that you have to have bookmarked is the Tar Heel Times. Anything and everything to do with carolina blue is going to be there. Check it out and make sure you visit their forum as well.
  • From Ethan here is another installment of “The Interweb“. From what I understood this post of his will be coming out every Tuesday and Thursday, so make sure to check them out!
  • Paneech tells us about Five Athletes Who Took Superstitions And Rituals Seriously. One of them is Michael Jordan, so go check out what he used to do! You can also see this post on Reddit Sports.
  • At Sports2Debate they have who they think are the Top 10 Wide Receivers of All Time. I love these types of lists, because whether you agree or not, if you read each of the posts you will learn something about each player that you didn’t know.
  • Mookie at A Stern Warning has a story about Age limits and the NBA. It’s a tough arguement, where both sides have great points. I think that whatever the final decision is no one will be fully happy. But maybe the key is that no one be fully upset over it.
  • Kellex, over at a Blaze of Love, talks about why the eight reasons the Denver Nuggets are the most entertaining team in sports. I am not sure about that, but the fact that there is a Carolina connection (George Karl is a Tar Heel) this story is worth the read!
  • Lastly, for those of you that love Harry Potter, jmadsen has a post about NBA Players in the new Harry Potter movie. I have to say this was cool, and some of the comparison actors/athletes were pretty close.
