Good Morning Tar Heels 05/30/09
Due to an unexpected family issue yesterday I had to let go of many things, including my daily post giving out shout outs and links to carolina related blogs and/or friends of The Fifth Corner. Well, today I am back again (hopefully bigger and better than ever), with the post I like to call “Good Morning Tar Heels”, and since I missed a day and because it’s the weekend, this is going to be a very, very big one. And as usual, we begin with the birthday wishes, which today we have two to celebrate. So, sit back and relax, as you check out this edition of “Good Morning Tar Heels”…
The birthday wishes:
First birthday is to Vasco Evtimov, ex pupil of Dean Smith, who turns 32 today. Evtimov was a McDonald’s All American before coming to Chapel Hill. After playing at UNC (where he had two stints at the college) he has been in different European teams. Happy birthday to you Vasco.
The other player who is turning age today is a football player that is under the tuteledge of head coach Butch Davis right now. It’s Greg Little, running back turned wide receiver, who is expected to pick up the slack left by the top three wide outs leaving from last year’s team Happy birthday Greg, and good luck on the upcoming season.
The shout outs:
To a person who can hold his own in any discussion, and did just that with me for a couple of day. I might not agree with everything he says, but I do respect everything he says, this shout out goes out to DSouthr over at CarolinaBlue.com.
To the people that come over to the NC web boards I frequent and do not troll/flame. Thanks for giving us good posts to read and not ones to delete. In my mind being able to exchange thoughts is the best way to enhance web boards.
The Truth About It, and his site by the same name. Thanks for the link to a Ty Lawson and for all of us that watch the ex Heels in the pro’s this site is about the Washington Wizards, who have both Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood on the team. Check this post out about the possibility of Jamison being traded. I have to say that is very unlikely.
And the last one in here goes to “The No Look Pass”, who went out of his way to make a nice #followfriday post on Twitter about me, this is his twitter page by the way. This was his message: “TheNoLookPass8. Follow @A_E_M. Tar Heel for life. Love that he talks to everybody and links to a lot of our stuff. Great guy. #FollowFriday”. I thought it was very nice, thanks again to “The No Look Pass” and check out his new podcast called “Chronicles of Crotty“.
The links:
As usual Ethan at NESW Sports has a TNT video about Mike Polk’s Tribute to TNT Crew, NBA Playoffs video that is definitely worth watching. And while there there is also a cartoon about LBJ telling the rest of the Cavs to hop on his back so he can “carry them“.
Brian Foley (The Collebe Baseball Blog) did a great job doing all the predictions for this weekend’s sixteen Regionals. Of course there is the Chapel Hill regional there as well, where North Carolina is the host.
I know we are still in spring (even if where I live might still feel like winter) but here is something to make you feel like it’s the end of summer, NovaFantasySports has a Fantasy Football mock draft! C’mon you know you want some football already, don’t you?
Over at Digital Sports Daily there is a new feature you can check out. They have now where you can submit your news, blogs and opinions. Pretty cool, and it’s another place to have your posts seen. Check it out. or you can follow them on Twitter.
Over at Detroit4Lyfe there is a very good post about a young man who made Detroit Country Day and State of Michigan proud. And he did that not by being a great sports player, but by participating in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Very, very good read!
Stay at D4L another very good post, worth the read. It’s called “Detroit4lyfe Goes From Bloguin to Blogtopus for NHL Finals: The Story of its Transformation“. And the story is as good as the title is long! You can find this story on Ball Hype as wel as Reddit.
The Docksquad web site has a great puppet video of Kobe and LeBron and “the infamous car jump“. Definitely worth watching, and definitely worth checking out DS’ web site!
At Sharapovasthigh the post I have to link to is the one talking about how “South Carolina: Settling for Mediocrity…all my life“. Being a fan of the real Carolina, you know, North Carolina, this post just made me smile a whole lot.
The Zoner Sports have a nice post thinking that maybe Peter King ranking the Chicago Bears fourth in the NFL is a tad too high. I have to agree, but I also have to say that the New York Giants being third seems a high as well.
And finally InGameNow has the story/video of Carlos Zambrano going off, along with another ten videos of baseball managers meltdowns. Take a break from whatever you are doing and check these out. Don’t have time to watch them all? That is what bookmarking is all about.
