Rivals.com has released its pre-season All-American teams, and on those three squads we find four Tar Heels. Two of them, senior defensive end Robert Quinn and senior line backer Quan Sturdivant, making the first team. For those of you wondering, Carolina did not have any offensive players on these teams. The other two players from Chapel Hill making this list are senior defensive tackle Marvin Austin and senior free safety Deunta Williams. I have to say seeing Austin on the list makes me feel that the rumors about UNC not getting hit too hard by the NCAA investigation are true, but only time will tell on that. On the other hand I have to say that if Austin is going to play second team was where I thought he would end up. If you check out the whole list you will see that North Carolina is one of five teams with four players on the three teams. Alabama is one of those squads, with their returning Heisman Trophy winner, running back Mark Ingram, while Pittsburgh is another, making it sound like we already know who is going to take the Big East this season. TCU and Georgia are the other teams.
In all the Atlantic Coast Conference has 11 players on the three pre-season teams, tied for third with the Big Ten. The Pac-10 (or is it 12 now) leads the way with 15 players and the SEC is second with 13. Even with Pitt having four players on these teams the Big East could only manage six mentions altogether!
