From a small clip I found on one of my favorite sites, Tar Heel Times, tells about Miami Central running back Brandon Gainer (6’0″/194 lbs) listing North Carolina has one of its four top teams. In all the four star player (according to ESPN) has sixteen teams looking at him, fifteen of them having offered a scholarship to the 2010 class back. Rivals has Gainer as a three star back, while Scout sees him as a three star player as well. The young man said this a few days back:
“My top four right now are North Carolina, UCF, USF, Oregon. In no order. I haven’t taken any visits yet, I plan on narrowing this list down a little more within the next few weeks. I will have a busy January taking visits to several schools, then I will make my decision in late January likely.”
This means that for the UNC coaching staff knowing whether or not they get this player is not going to be a long process, which should help out the rest of their recruiting (in all Carolina has 12 incoming players for the 2010 year). But while it seems that Gainer is firm on those four teams this next sentence makes it sound like there could be dark horses creeping up as well:
“I like all the schools I’m considering because they run the ball a lot. Most schools have a solid offensive line for me to run behind. My teammates committed to UCF, and I like them as well, they are a great program, but I’m going to check out a couple other schools as well. Kentucky and Rutgers also remain in the picture as well. Coach (Gary) Campbell from Oregon was by a couple weeks to visit with me.”
