Bad Luck or Bad Problem?

UNCFBLogoAs I read one of the best blog about North Carolina, Tar Heel Fan, I stumble upon his article entitled “Okay, This Is Starting To Look Like A Problem“, which talks about the fact that three members of the football team, in the last three months, have found a way to get themselves a court date. Like it or not, this is definitely not the best way to persuade some recruits to come to your school, and in my opinion this needs to be dealt with swiftly before Carolina gets labeled with this sort of thing. But the question in Chapel Hill now is: is this a problem or just part of college?

The answer to me is that it’s a problem that comes from being in college, but it’s still a problem. For now it’s not an epedemic of sorts, but how many more happenings of this sort can a team take before it becomes one? In my opinion, not many, especially in a day and age where the media (and bloggers) is all over anything and everything. This team needs to stay focus on the fact that it has things to do in order to surpass what it did on the field last season. Having problems off the field such as these will not help them do so. Questions will be asked that need not, people will think about it when they should be focusing on other things, fans might have another thing to nibble on instead of just supporting a team that needs it right now. Let’s face it, while it might be a small percentage that will say this, you know that if the team does not meet expectations someone is going to bring out these incidents as part of the reason why the squad faltered.

ACC LogoI am hoping that head coach Butch Davis and his staff are setting things straight with the players that this will not be tolerated and making sure that this is going to be the last time the media (or bloggers) will be talking about things like this and instead writing about the pre season and what is good with the program. I truly believe that someone like coach Davis can easily stop this nonsense quickly and get the whole team (and fan base) back on track with the program. I am looking forward to the season, and I do not want to be thinking about anything else but that. I am pretty sure that my feelings are the same as many other fans of the gridiron.

  1. I think it is a little bit of both personally. I know that boys will be boys and they will get in trouble on occasion but i also think Coach needs to step up the punishment. I knw it is hard but i dont want to see our best team in years pillaged by the law. http://www.theroadtotampabay.com/blogs/nc/
