The polls are out once again (for the seventh polling of the year), and today, just to make it all more interesting, besides the major ones (the AP & ESPN/USA Today) I decided to add the Fox Sports and the Bleacher Report (for the bloggers’ view point). I have to say it’s kind of interesting to see how the four polls look at where the Tar Heels should be and have them in different spots. Been following the polls for a long time due to this blog I have to say that with each week I believe more and more that the first one should be in mid January and it all does not matter since basketball decides its national champion on the court and not in the polls! But enough with my rant, let’s get back to the polls for week seven.
The AP & the ESPN/USA Today polls both have Carolina at the ninth slot, moving up one from a week ago. Fox Sports has them five slots lower, at number 14 and the Bleacher Report puts them at #11 on their poll. Now I know that from 9th to 14th isn’t that big of a drop, but the first one has the Heels as one of the Top 10 teams in the country while the second puts them in the second half of the Top 25. But what I find even more interesting is that while the polls have UNC in these three different slots all four polls have the other high ranked ACC team, Duke, at the seventh spot. Maybe it’s me, but I have to say I find that weird.
The third team from the Atlantic Coast Conference to make the polls is Clemson. On the AP poll it is ranked 21st, while in the ESPN/USA Today it’s in the teens, at 18. As far as Fox Sports they put the Tigers at the second to last spot and Bleacher Report places them at the highest ranking, coming in at the 16 slot of the Top 25. Once again making me think how these four polls have this squad all over the place while Duke is seventh for all of them.
