It’s now time to sit and wait for Friday when top seed North Carolina will face off against Gonzaga, so I thought I go around and look at what the various mock drafts are saying about the four Tar Heels that will most likely be in this year’s NBA Draft. I am talking about senior forward Tyler Hansbrough, senior swingman Danny Green, plus junior point guard Ty Lawson and shooting guard Wayne Ellington. Just a reminder before I show you what I found, all of these mock drafts are from before the games played this weekend, which in my mind might just change some minds about who will go where.
The first mock draft I looked at was the one done by NBADraftPress (posted: 03/17/09). They have the Heels going in the following order:
Next one is the one that Draft Express does (posted: 03/17/09). They also have just three Tar Heels being drafted:
Third web page I checked out is the one from College Hoops Update (posted: 03/16/09). This mock draft only has the first round, but I usually do not check these, but it is one of the most updated.
And the last one I went to see is the one from the NBA Draft Net (posted: 03/16/09). And for the third time in three web pages only three of the four Tar Heels are listed in the mock.
I have to say this, while I am seeing a trend for Hansbrough, a late first rounder, as well as for Danny Green, mid second rounder, there seems to be not much of a pattern for Ty Lawson, as he looks to be right on the margin of the lottery picks in two of the mocks, while in the other two he seems to be in the low 20′s. Now, for Wayne Ellington, I have to say I am pretty shocked that there is not one mock draft thinking he will be drafted, not a first rounder mind you, just drafted. I have to say with the two games in the ACC Tournament (averaging 20 points per game) and the two in the NCAA Tournament (averaging 22 points per game) someone has to take notice of how much the junior shooting guard has upped his game.
I know there is plenty of time left before the real draft happens, but for now I have to say that not seeing Ellington anywhere has me puzzled. I guess that if these sites do not follow the ACC as much as they should maybe with the way the junior from Chapel Hill is playing in the NCAA will make them take notice. I also have to believe that with the way Ty Lawson has played (both in the game against Duke and in the game against LSU) that his stock must be on the rise as well.
