And just when you thought the end was near…

And just when you thought the end of the two pronged investigation was near its conclusion something new surfaces to make you think we are back to square one. I have to admit, deep, deep down I thought this latest piece of information could/should be something that would come up somewhere along the process. According to the News & Observer it has now. What am I talking about you might be asking yourself, and the answer to that is: could the academic misconduct be something that stems longer than a year. From what Athletic Director Dick Baddour said at the meeting of the UNC system’s Board of Governors this could very well be a possibility. This is what the AD said about the issue:

“The short answer is yes. We will go where the information leads us. If that isn’t the immediate year … we will go where the information takes us.”

So, hang on some more folks just when we thought the end was getting closer we might have been sent for yet again another loop in this two pronged investigation. This twist might seal the faith of several of the players on the team, then again, before I jump with both feet in, this might be just a step that the University and the AD are doing to be as thorough as possible with the investigation.

In the end I have a feeling that come next weekend, when Georgia Tech comes to town, the football team will still be with many players ineligible one way or the other and that might just mean 0-2 for a team that some had winning the Atlantic Coast Conference.
